What We Want: Biblical, Simple, Serious
We want a biblical church, a simple church, a church that takes the Bible and Christianity seriously. We want a church that focuses on these things:
- Biblical Discipleship
- Intentional Evangelism
- Expository Preaching
- Systematic Bible Teaching
- Sober Music with Congregational Singing
- Genuine Fellowship
- Missions Focus and Investment
We are a traditional church with over 40 years of very rich history, and we are committed to maintaining our biblical, conservative church model while also ministering to a growing congregation of believers who desire to be and make disciples of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ by simply learning the Bible and doing it what it tells us. We have a pulpit, pews, hymnals, and even a steeple! We like that. And we aim to keep all that while providing a refuge of Bible preaching and teaching for all those who are like-minded.
There are any number of decent “evangelical” churches in Johnson County, Kansas. But most have adopted the “modern” or “contemporary” model for their services (theater settings with dimmed lighting, concert-type music, and overall upbeat party atmosphere).
We strongly desire a traditional, conservative church that gives primacy to Scripture and that has a sober and attitude toward life and worship. And we want our church to always take the Scripture seriously. We do not desire anything big and fancy and elaborate. With two or three (Mat 18.20), we can make it work. But with more, it could be a lot more!
If this something that interests you, please visit Victory Baptist Church. You are more than welcome! You are wanted, needed, and invited!.
Biblical Discipleship
The word “discipleship” simple refers to the process through which a “disciple” (a follower or “lifestyle apprentice”) go through while becoming like his master in character and conduct.
- A biblical disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ is a repentant believer who is diligently applying himself to become like his Master, Jesus Christ. Luke 6.40 says he is being perfected to become like the Perfect Man, Jesus Christ.
- The Apostle Paul referred to this same process of growing in Christ-likeness in Romans 8.29 when he said we are all to be conformed to the image of the Son of God.
- This process takes place as the believer learns Scripture (i.e., “doctrine,” the teaching of the Bible) and applies what he is learning to his own life in every way possible (as the doctrine of Scripture reproves him, corrects him, and instructs him in righteousness; 2Tim 3.14-17).
- God designed the local church, with its pastors, teachers, preachers, and missionaries, to play a key role in that process of “perfecting the saints” (Eph 4.11-16).
- Biblical discipleship begins with salvation, when the sinner turns from following sin and self, and turns to follow the Lord Jesus Christ in humble trust, submission, and obedience. Therefore, we make new disciples by evangelizing the lost.
- Biblical discipleship continues (until we die or are raptured; Php 1.6 cf. Php 3.20-21) as the sinner learns and applies the Bible, a process referred to as spiritual grow, growing in Christ, or growing in holiness. Therefore, we make mature disciples by edifying the saved.
- This process is illustrated very easily with the stages a tree go through from seed to fruit-bearing maturity (because, by God’s design, trees in the Bible are a picture of men; Psalm 1.1-3, etc.).
Stage 1: Put down some roots…
We plant the seeds and God gives the increase. And when He gives that increase and we have a brand new “sapling” of a tree, what does that “new born” tree need? It needs to put down some roots in good soil where it can receive the nutrients necessary for its good health and proper growth.
- A new Christian (or a Christian who is just now starting to grow in his faith) needs a good local church where he can receive the things he needs for his spiritual health and proper growth in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- A good local church will provide Bible preaching and teaching so the new Christian and learn the Bible and learn how to walk with the Lord daily in the Bible.
- A good local church will provide loving fellowship where the growing Christian is accepted but also exhorted and challenged to “put off the old man” and “put on the new man in Jesus Christ.”
- A new Christian needs to put down some roots as a member of a good, biblical local church. That’s by God’s design: the New Testament local church is God established structure today for carrying out the Mission of He gave us of being and making disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.
We would love for you to consider putting down roots with us at Victory Baptist Church so that we can grow together and glorify God by serving Him as the faithful stewards He called us to be!
Stage 2: You need a strong trunk…
God says in Ephesians 4.14 that He wants us to grow in Christ (in spiritual maturity) and no longer be children in the faith so that we are not “tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine.”
- Just like a tree needs a strong trunk to withstand the winds and storms that try to topple it to the ground, so the Christian needs a strong measure of Bible knowledge to withstand the “winds of doctrine” that the world, the flesh, and the devil will use to try to “topple” him from his faith and grounding in the Lord.
- There many “winds of doctrine” (false teachings, false belief systems) blowing around our world today. We need to be firmly grounded in the Bible so that when we have to deal with them, we will not be carried away.
- This means that we not only need to learn the Bible, but we need to learn how to learn the Bible for ourselves. A Christian should put down roots in (become a member of) a local church that can teach him the Bible and then give him the training and tools he needs to take on the life-long project of learning the Bible for himself.
At Victory Baptist Church we are committed to not only teaching and preaching the Bible, but helping each member become a effective Bible study for the rest of his or her life. Only through learning and applying Scripture to every area of our lives consistently can we grow strong in Christ-likeness.
Stage 3: You need to participate…
Just as a tree participates in its environment through its leaves, so a Christian participates in his “environment” (the world in which he lives) through serving and ministering to others.
- The Bible is very clear in Ephesians 2.10 when it says that everyone who is born again (every Christian) has been created in Christ Jesus (made a new creature) “unto good works.”
- And not only did God design every born-again Christian for good works, but He designed the works He wants us to do specifically for us. The works and the workers are a perfect fit by divine design!
- This means that every member of the church is designed to be a minister in work of the Lord–designed to participate in the work of making disciples through evangelizing the lost (2Cor 5.17-21) and edifying the saved (1Cor 12 cf. Eph 4.11-16).
At Victory Baptist Church we are committed to helping every member become the minister God desires for him or her to be. We want to help you find your “divine design” and then help you grow into a fruitful and fulfilling ministry in service to others, ultimately serving God in the Mission He gave us to do together.
Stage 4: You need to reproduce…
The ultimate goal of all life that God created is to reproduce “after his kind” (Gen 1.11, 12, 21, 24, 25, 28). This is the essence of the Great Commission: to go and make disciples of all nations (Mat 28.18-20). God wants us to reproduce!
- But we don’t want to reproduce bad fruit. We want to reproduce good fruit! We want to see lost people genuinely and gloriously saved! And we want to see Christians growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ daily as the learn the Bible and apply it to every area of their lives!
- That means we need to be disciples (good, healthy, growing disciples) of the Lord Jesus Christ before we can reproduce that same lifestyle in others. Whether we like it or not, whether we want to or not, we will reproduce “after our kind.” An apple tree does not reproduce itself in an orange tree. And a carnal, superficial, apathetic, indifferent, lukewarm, biblically illiterate “Christian” will never produce a Christ-like disciple of the Lord. We need to be disciples in order to make disciples.
- The way we go about that is simple: Put down roots as a member of a biblical local church; grow in spiritual mature by learning and applying the Bible; and then minister all of that to others.
- When we do that, we will grow in maturity. And just as a tree naturally bears fruit, so the Christian will bear the fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5.22-23). And the seed is in the fruit! Bear fruit and God will give you opportunity to use that fruit to sow the seed of gospel and the Word of God in the lives of others around you.
This whole process should be natural, just a tree grows from sapling to fruit-bearing maturity. But we need to be intentional about it. Because, as a very faithful pastor once said, “Even a dead fish can swim downstream. It takes a live one to swim upstream!” And that live fish is going to have to be diligent and work at it. It takes time and effort. But we at Victory Baptist Church are committed to helping as many people as we can to be saved and then to grow through this process of sanctification… a process called biblical discipleship.
Stage 5: Glorify God & Enjoy Him Forever!
Only by being and making disciples through this process of salvation and sanctification (evangelism and edification) can we glorify God, because that is the work He gave us to do (John 17.4 cf. Eph 2.10; 4.11-16). And only if we are glorifying God can we enjoy Him forever. But, if we are participating in this process… you have no idea how enjoyable God is and how enjoyable eternity with Him will be!
Intentional Evangelism
Evangelism refers to the proclamation of the gospel (the good news of Jesus Christ) to those who do not know the Lord.
- Evangelism is the primary focus of the Great Commission.
- Biblical evangelism is how a disciple is made (in the sense of “created”).
- And we love intentional evangelism, even open-air evangelism, because this the primary pattern we see Scripture.
- At Victory Baptist Church we are not only committed to intentional evangelism, we are committed to teaching and training anyone who wants to learn how to intentionally evangelize!
- Think about this…
Evangelism should be our primary focus of our ministry because evangelism is the primary focus of the Great Commission.
- (Mat 28.18-20) As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to go and teach all nations (and what we are to teach is clear when we read the other Great Commission passages that follow).
- (Mark 16.15) Christ has commanded His followers to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.
- (Luke 24.46-48) We are, therefore, to go out among all nations and witness to the lost by preaching repentance and remission of sins in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- (John 20.21) Jesus Christ has sent us with the same mission given to Him by the Father: To seek out lost sinners and save them (Luke 19.10; 1Tim 1.15).
- (Acts 1.8) The Lord has given us His Holy Spirit so that we might be bold witnesses of Him in all the world (boldness in preaching the gospel to the lost is evidence of the filling of the Spirit; Acts 4.31).
- (Rom 10.13-17) God’s will is that none should perish, but that all should come to repentance and salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ (1Tim 2.4; 2Pet 3.9), and to this end He has sent us to preach the gospel to every creature.
- (2Cor 5.18-20) Everyone who has been reconciled to God in Jesus Christ has also been entrusted with the gospel (the Word of Reconciliation); each has been commanded to preach the message to all those who are lost and without hope in this world (2Cor 4.3-6; 1Cor 1.18, 21).
- (1Cor 1.22-23) Just as the defining characteristic of the Jews is seeking after signs, and that of the Gentiles is the search for wisdom, so the defining characteristic of Christians is the preaching of the gospel.
- (1Thes 1.5-8) An exemplary church (a church God Himself sets before everyone as a model and example to follow: v7) is a church that sounds out the Word of the Lord, calling men to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (v8).
- (Acts 20.24) The Apostle Paul was called primarily to preach the gospel to the lost (Acts 20.20-21; Rom 1.14-16; 15.20-21; 1Cor 1.17; 2Cor 10.13-16; Php 1.12-18) and we are called to follow him and live like he lived (1Cor 4.16; 11.1; Php 3.17; 4.9; 1Thes 1.6-8; 2Thes 3.7-9).
Biblical evangelism should be our primary focus because only through biblical evangelism is a disciple made (in the sense of “created”).
- A disciple, by definition, is a follower of a Master (an apprentice, if you will). A disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ follows Him in order to be like Him and live as He lived (John 13.15; 1Pet 2.21; 1Jn 2.6), so much so that people around him will call him a “little Christ,” a “Christ-ite,” or in Bible terms, a Christian (Acts 11.26).
- (1Thes 1.9) Therefore, a disciple, a follower of Christ (a Christian), is a sinner who has turned from his idols of sin and self (repentance) and has turned to the Lord Jesus Christ (faith) to trust Him for salvation and follow Him as Master.
- (Acts 20.20-21) Biblical evangelism calls men to repentance (through the use of the Law; 1Tim 1.8-11) and to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom 3.23-26).
- When the sinner rightly responds to the preaching of the gospel (through repentance and faith), he becomes a disciple (follower) of the Lord Jesus Christ. We “make” disciples evangelizing the lost!
Intentional, and even open-air evangelism should be a primary focus in our ministry because intentional, open-air evangelism is the primary pattern of evangelism we see in Scripture.
- Firstly, it is impossible to fulfill the Great Commission, and preach the gospel to every creature, if we do not intentionally go out to where the sinners are and communicate the gospel message to them. To limit evangelism to church activities, friendships, family, casual conversations, and “divine appointments” is to grossly disobey the Lord in the commands He gave His followers in the Great Commission.
- Secondly, the Scripture is clear that the gospel is spread through this world through the intentional, zealous, and bold preaching of the gospel to the lost, whether they be people we know or strangers on the streets (Php 1.12-18; Acts 2.14; 4.31; 5.19, 20, 25, 28, 32, 42; 8.4, 25, 35, 40; 9.20, 22, 28, 29; 10.6, 22, 32, 42; 11.14, 19, 20; 13.5, 44; 14.1, 7, 21, 25; 15.35, 36;16.5, 10, 13, 25, 32; 17.2, 10, 17, 22; 18.4, 5, 19, 25, 28; 19.8, 9; 20.20, 21, 24; 21.39; 22.1-22; 23.11; 24.24, 25; 26.18, 28; 28.31).
- To relegate evangelism to the church or to casual conversations is to disobey the Lord and fail to follow the clear pattern of biblical evangelism established in the Bible.
At Victory Baptist Church we desire to preach the gospel to every creature… even in the open-air!
Expository Preaching
So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading. [Neh 8.8]
Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood of all men. For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God. [Acts 20.26-27]
What is “expository preaching”?
Expository preaching is preaching that derives its theme and central message directly from the Bible. Think about what God says in Nehemiah 8.1-8 when we see something very similar to “expository preaching” in the history of the nation of Israel.
1. Expository preaching draws the listeners’ attention to the Bible and not to the preacher (his ideas, his knowledge, his creativity, his personality, etc.).
1 And all the people gathered themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law of Moses, which the LORD had commanded to Israel.
2 And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month.
3 And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law. [Neh 8.1-3]
2. The only mention of the word “pulpit” in the King James Bible is found in Nehemiah 8.4, and it is found in the context of men preaching Scripture expositorily. The reason we have a “pulpit” is draw attention to the Scripture and to facilitate the exposition (the explaining) of God’s Word to God’s people.
4 And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam. [Neh 8.4]
3. In the following passage in Nehemiah 8 we see the biblical definition of expository preaching. The preacher takes the Word of God, he opens it, he reads it “distinctly” (clearly, letting none of the words “fall to the ground”; 1Sam 3.19), and he causes the people to understand the reading of the Scripture.
5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:
6 And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground.
7 Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.
8 So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading. [Neh 8.5-8]
- This is the entirety of the the task God has the preacher or teacher of His Word–no more, no less. Once he has explained a passage sufficiently so that people understand what the Bible says, he has fulfilled his ministry. This is what God expects of the preacher or the teacher.
- In this way, the people’s attention is drawn to the Word of God and its authority, not to the preacher and his opinions or convictions. This way, people can respond directly to God, not to the preacher. When people understand what the Scripture says, they themselves must decide what they will do it (what they will do with what God just told them through His Word).
What’s the big deal with “expository preaching”?
1. Expository preaching eliminates the pressure of having to invent or create a new message every week. The preacher (or teacher) always knows what the next message is because it is the next passage in the book he is teaching.
2. If a preacher or teacher desires or needs to preach on a specific topic, he can choose a passage of Scripture that deals with that topic and exposit the passage to teach what the Bible says on the topic.
3. Through expository preaching, each doctrine and each topic of the Bible is taught naturally in its own context. It is not simply a matter of preaching on the topics we like, but rather of studying each topic in its context and explaining it accordingly (in its proper context).
4. Expository preaching motivates people to read and study the Bible for themselves. Through expository preaching, the Christian sees how the whole Bible fits together into one unified whole–each “piece” fits together like a fascinating puzzle.
5. Expository preaching creates respect and reverence for the Word of God.
1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
5 But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. [2Tim 4.1-5]
Systematic Bible Teaching
This aspect of a biblical local church’s ministry is similar to the above explanation of expository preaching, but it goes a little further. At Victory Baptist Church we desire to preach the Bible expositorily for the edification of the saints. But we also desire to teach the Bible in a systematic manner.
- The Bible, as one unified whole (because it has, ultimately, one Author: God), has one theme and one Protagonist. We need to understand its central theme and how that theme relates to the Protagonist, because only then can we see how we ourselves fit into what God is doing throughout Bible history.
- Within that one theme, we see multiple natural division in Scripture. Things are different in the Old Testament when compared to the New. Things were different in the Garden before Adam sinned compared to how life became afterward. We need to understand these self-evident divisions in the Bible because they form a natural, God-given structure to the extensive writings we call the Bible.
- And then we should ask ourselves why these division are self-evident. What makes one portion of the Bible obviously different than another? And what implications might that have for us today? How should we understand our lives in Christ in the context of our “division” in Scripture?
- All of this is to say that we need to approach our study of the Bible in a systematic way (following the self-evident “system” we see in the Scripture itself).
And then as we progress in our understanding of the Bible as a unified whole, we can then proceed to learning different systematic methods of studying the Bible for ourselves:
- Book Studies (like a study of the Book of Leviticus or the Book of Ephesians)
- Chapter Studies (like a study of each of the chapters in Leviticus or Ephesians)
- Passage Studies (to study out reach chapter of the book you’re studying)
- Word Studies (like a study on “fasting”)
- Topical Studies (like a study on “regeneration”)
- Character Quality Studies (like a study on “diligence”)
- Character (Person) Studies (like a study on David or Lot)
At Victory Baptist Church we want to study the Bible, and we want to study the Bible systematically (according to the self-evidence system God gave us in the Bible itself). And we are committed to teaching God’s people how to study the Bible for themselves.
Sober Music with Congregational Singing
Right before Israel (the northern 10 tribes of the nation) was taken out of the land into the Assyrian captivity, God proclaimed this accusation against them:
And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified against them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and went after the heathen that were round about them, concerning whom the LORD had charged them, that they should not do like them. [2Kings 17.15]
And right before Judah (the two southern tribes of the nation) was taken out of the land into the Babylonian captivity, God proclaimed this accusation against them:
Moreover all the chief of the priests, and the people, transgressed very much after all the abominations of the heathen; and polluted the house of the LORD which he had hallowed in Jerusalem. [2Chron 36.14]
God was not pleased with the “Canaanization” of His people (that His people would “learn” how to “worship God” from the pagan nations around them). And we do not believe God is pleased today when we bring the world’s raucous music into His church and call it “worship.”
God said very clearly in the writings of the Apostle Paul what His desire was for music and singing in the local church. The song service in a local church should edify the saints through teaching and admonishing, not entertain them or manipulate them emotionally.
…Let all things be done unto edifying. [1Cor 14.26]
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. [Col 3.16]
Let all things be done decently and in order. [1Cor 14.40]
We should strive to be sober in all of our public gatherings so as to adorn the gospel and sound doctrine, not detract from it cause reproach on the name and cause of Christ.
Abstain from all appearance of evil. [1Thes 5.22]
Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world… [Titus 2.12]
…shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things. [Titus 2.10]
Finally, the old hymns were written specifically for congregational singing. Modern contemporary music is written and designed for entertainment–for performers on a stage to put on a show that pleases those in attendance. At Victory Baptist Church, we just want to all sing songs together that glorify God and edify us together as His children. New is not always better.
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. [1John 2.15]
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour… [1Pet 5.8]
Genuine Fellowship
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. [Prov 27.17]
19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. [Eph 2.19-22]
God’s plan for a local church (a local gathering of believers) is that we are “builded together” (that we grow in Christ together, in fellowship with one another).
We should strive to develop friendships with other committed Christians. We need friendships with people with whom we can simply spend time talking about what we like, what we have in common, and also about the Bible and the things of God. If we don’t, we’ll have a very difficult time developing the character that God wants in us. He designed Christianity to be a family; we need the love of our spiritual family and the opportunities to grow in grace and Christ-likeness our irritating family (church) members provide to us!
Also, one of the most powerful things you can do to develop your Christian character is to have Christian friends who are more mature than you and who therefore challenge you to grow further. Spend time with people like this because through these friendships, God will awaken your interest in “being like them” in various aspects of life. Through personal relationships, God will create “convictions” in your heart. Values, commitments, motivation, etc., are all “contagious” (“acquired” from others, not so much through Bible studies). They are far more easily “caught” than “taught.”
And then you can be a friend to others who are growing, to help them as your friends helped you. Simply spend time with them, being who you are, and talking about your life, your walk, and your ministry in Christ Jesus.
At Victory Baptist Church, we want this kind of genuine fellowship with the other believers in our spiritual family (in our local church). We aren’t perfect. We fail (sometime a lot). But this is something important to us and so when we fail we own it, repent, get it right, and get back to being builded together in genuine fellowship with the saints.
Missions Focus and Investment
“Mission” is simply doing in another geographic location what we are doing here. We a definite vision for Victory Baptist Church, and we have a definite desire to see that same vision reproduced here in the United States and abroad.
- We want each member of our church to understand that he or she is a “missionary” each and every day to those in our lives (family, friends, co-workers). If we can speak about Christ and the gospel, great! If not, then we want to adorn the gospel of our Lord with godly living.
- We would love to see God train up men in our ministry to be pastors, missionaries, preachers, teachers, evangelists…
- And we will always support those we can–those who are already on the field or who are going to the field, to serve our Lord Jesus Christ by evangelizing the lost and edifying the saved.
And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also. [2Tim 2.2]
At Victory Baptist Church we consider any and all giving to “missions” (of our time, our talents, or our treasure) to be an investment. And we want to invest in those who will give the greatest “return” on that investment–the greatest amount of glory and pleasure for our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Giving to “missions” is not a chore; it’s a tremendous blessing because it allows us (those who have “stayed by the stuff”: 1Sam 30.23-24) to be a part of the ministry of those “on the front lines.” Each has his part, but the glory is God’s alone.
6 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.
7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.
8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work… [2Cor 9.6-8]
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. [Mat 6.9-21]
1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. [Col 3.1-4]
